Visiting Faith Lutheran Church?

We're glad you decided to join us!

Whether you are seeking a church, visiting us for worship or attending one of our many events that we sponsor, we welcome you into our community!  Our goal for this website is to allow you to see our church, our community and our commitment to a faith rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Where is Faith Lutheran?

Faith Lutheran Church is located at 10395 University Avenue in Clive, a western suburb of the Metro Des Moines area.  University Avenue is a main east-west route through the western Des Moines suburbs of Windsor Heights, Clive, West Des Moines and Waukee and is also easy to get to by driving east from the University Avenue exit of Interstates I-35/I-80.  We are located on the north side of University Avenue across from a shopping center that includes Best Buy and Whole Foods.

Members of our congregation come from the Des Moines metro and surrounding areas.

Are Visitors Welcome?

Absolutely.  Visitors are welcome at all services, at all events.  Our worship and mission is for you, regardless of who you are, where you come from or what your experiences with church may have been.

As a worshipping guest, it is our joy to be blessed by the gift of your presence among us.

Most people who pass through our doors are in search of three great life experiences:

People   (to love and be loved)
Place      (to be accepted as we are)
Purpose  (in living and serving)

We are all in need of these things and seek our own sense of 'belonging', not only in community but also in the Word, our Baptisms and the Sacrament of Holy Communion; the symbols that Christ has created this community for us.

We realize that visiting a place of worship can be an intimidating experience, particularly in a family and community setting like Faith Lutheran Church.  You may be wondering where to park, which door to go into or may simply be experiencing the feelings of anxiety that come from being an 'outsider'.

We would like to help and make sure that you can fully take in the community, our worship and the gifts of our Savior and lessen the anxieties that come with such an experience.

Please feel free to contact us about visiting by contacting the office.  We'd like to make sure that we can answer your questions, or even arrange to have our ministry staff or a host family meet with you, maybe to answer questions or maybe to welcome you into our community and sit with you during a worship service.  Please let us know how we can serve you.

What Can I Expect At Faith Lutheran Church?

When entering the building, the first thing you will encounter is the baptismal font in the Commons of our building.  This font is an outward sign of our salvation in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, a promise bound in the water and The Word. You will often find people gathered around this area enjoying the warmth and community of our congregation.

You may be in our building for an event, a class, or a worship service.  All of our events are open to the public and we extend a warm and grateful welcome to those that have chosen to join us. Here is a map of our building to help you find your way.

Our worship services are typically liturgically based, lead in a traditional format by our pipe organ, or in a contemporary format that features music lead by a small group of instrumentalists and singers.  As such, you'll note a few primary features of our services:

  1. A service that begins with a call to confession and repentance and the declaration of absolution; that through the death and resurrection of Christ your sins have been forgiven.
  2. A study of the word, through readings (typically two) and a reflection on The Word.  (We maintain an online archive of the Gospel readings and sermons.
  3. The distribution of Holy Communion; the gift of the body and blood of Christ for the forgiveness of sin.  At Faith Lutheran, Holy Communion is offered to all baptized Christians.

Children are always welcome at worship services, which often include a message meant to involve them in our worship.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us regarding our beliefs, our worship services or programs we have for children, adults and families.
