Dr. David Johnson, D.S.M.

Director of Music Ministry
Bio: Dr. Johnson oversees a program consisting of seven ensembles from pre-school through adults, both instrumental and choral. He conducts the 50 voice Chancel Choir and the five- octave Jubilate Handbell Chior. Dr. Johnson is also the artistic director for the Soli Deo Musica Arts Series at Faith Lutheran Church. As well, Dr. Johnson is on the staff of Grandview University teaching undergraduate courses in Church Music and the Arts. He holds degrees from Gonzaga University, Spokane Washington, and the Graduate Theological Foundation, South Bend Indiana. His primary teachers were Dr. Janet Ahrends, Gonzaga University, Dr. Edward Shaeffer, Gonzaga University and Dr. Randi Von Ellefson currently Director of Choral activites at Oklahoma City University. His primary teacher and advisor at the Graduate Theological Foundation was Dr. Peter Rousakis. He holds professional membership in the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians and the American Guild of Organist. Dr. Johnson has been a full time church musician since 1986. He has served various denominations in Washington, Idaho, Michigan and Montana prior to his position in Iowa and is thrilled to be at Faith Lutheran Church.
