Procliaming, Living, and Growing in Faith
Wednesday Faith Night
Faith Night adult education classes meet on Wednesday evenings throughout the school year from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. downstairs in Learning Center 2 in conjunction with the Faith Night programming for children and youth. Faith Feast, a family meal, is provided in St. Michael's Hall from 5:15 to 6:00 p.m. prior to the Wednesday evening programming. Faith Night adult education provides an opportunity for in-depth Bible study, as well as in-depth study of theology and discipleship.
The dates and descriptions of Faith Night adult education topics for the spring 2007 term are listed below.
Jesus Stumps the Church, January 3 through February 7
Pastor Dave Nerdig turns the Sunday morning Adult Discovery topic Stump the Professors on its head and invites participants to look at "stumping" from Jesus' perspective. Throughout his ministry, Jesus asked a lot of questions. You'd be suprised how closely the questions Jesus asks reflect the questions we ourselves ask. Questions like: Who do you say that I am? Where is your faith? Do you think that people suffer because they sin? What is the kingdom of God like? Come and join us for a close look at the questions that Jesus asks that still challenge the church today.
Journeys of Faith, February 28 through March 28
No class on March 21 due to spring break
Sacred Stories of Those Who Lead in Other Places could be the title of this series. Leaders of the community have been invited to share their journeys of Faith on Wednesday evenings during our Lenten worship services. These same individuals will expand on their journeys of faith at the Wednesday eveing Adult Educations classes. Those who have accepted our invitation to speak at services and the adult ed classes include Christie Vilsac, The Reverend Bob Boudwyns, and The Reverend Russell Melby. Other possibilities include John Bachman and Reka Basu. Watch future issues of the Faith Weekly bulletin announcements for the specific community leaders who will be joining us on Wednesday evenings during Lent.
Comparative Lutheranism, April 11 through April 23
Dr. Mark Mattes, Grand View College professor of Philosophy and Religion, concludes our spring term as he helps us understand the differences between Lutheran churches and how those differences came about.
