Preschool Philosophy

  • Our preschool philosophy is to provide an environment which nurtures and stimulates the developement of young children, surrounding them with a sense of God's presence.

  • Our preschool curriculum promotes cognitive, affective, spiritual, social, and motor developemnt through a variety of activities and materials.

  • Our preschool emphasizes experential learning designed to promote critical thinking skills and language development as a foundation for later learning. A variety of challenging, meaningful activities are offered, tailored to the interests and abilities of individual students.

Inclement Weather Policy

The preschool will follow the West Des Moines Community School District (WDCSC) for closings due to inclement weather.

  • If the school district is closed for the day, the preschool will also be closed.
  • If the school district has a late start, the preschool will not hold morning classes.
  • If the school district decides to let students out early and the decision is made before 12:30 p.m., the preschool will not hold afternoon classes.
  • If the preschool makes a decision that deviates from the school district, all parents will be notified personally.
  • Seeds of Faith will not make up any days missed due to inclement weather.

Curriculum

Seeds of Faith believes in the importance of a hands-on approach to learning. Children learn the most through play and by taking an active role in the learning process. Each class time, children take turns sharing treasures from home, bringing snacks for the whole class, and being special helpers. Our preschoolers feel at home in their classroom. Our curriculum, as well as the classroom environment, is Christian-based, with an emphasis on literature and art. A typical preschool day includes the following:

  • Center time focusing on fine motor skills
  • Gathering activities
  • A healthy snack
  • Story time complemented by many songs, poems, and finger plays
  • Art with an emphasis on process versus product
  • Free play experiences
  • Calendar and weather time
  • Gross motor play, usually outside on the playground
  • Simple devotions and prayers at closing circle

All of the activities are designed to foster the growth of the whole child, focusing on the child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

Staff

Our warm, caring, and energetic staff receives training in CPR, first aid, and mandatory child abuse detection. In addition, the staff attends early childhood conferences and staff development training sessions on a regular basis to stay current on early childhood trends. All staff members have met or exceed the requirements to be qualified by the state licensing department.

Facilities

Seeds of Faith is an Iowa Department of Human Services state-licensed facility. We strive to create a warm, home-like environment in the classroom. Our classrooms feature child-sized sinks, a cozy reading corner, "art galleries" to display art work, and warm, inviting rugs and play areas. Our facility also boasts a playground area as well as a large area for indoor play when too cold or rainy to play outside.
