Choral Music

Faith offers several opportunities to participate in choral music groups. Click on one of the headings listed below to go directly to that topic or scroll through all the topics in the order they are shown.

Alleluia Choir

Alleluia Choir, for 1st through 3rd graders, provides the opportunity for beginning vocal development as part of the Faith Night education hour. It meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. downstairs in rooms 6 and 8 of Hannah Hall. The group integrates singing as part of an activity-based curriculum of crafts, games, and study of hymns and presents music at worship services on a regular basis. Adventure Club is directed by Peggy Aanonson, a member of Faith and music teacher at Horizon Elementary School in Johnston.

Messiah Choir

Messiah Choir, for 4th through 6th graders, rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the music room as part of the Faith Night education hour. Intermediate music reading skills and production are taught via seasonal anthems, which are presented at worship services several times each season and for special services. Messiah Choir is directed by Tom Sletto, director of music ministries.

Children's Musical

Students in 1st through 6th grades have the opportunity to participate in the annual children's musical, which is presented each year in February. The musical presents a Biblical story to the entire congregation and the local community through drama, song, and dance. Auditions for speaking/solo parts are held in November, and rehearsals begin immediately after Christmas break. Creating grand sets and elaborate costumes are two of the many ways parents and other members of the congregation can volunteer to support the production. The show is presented four times on a weekend (twice on Saturday evening and twice on Sunday morning) in February to ensure that family, friends, the congregation, and the community all have an opportunity to attend at least one performance.

 Worship Education (7th - 9th Grade)

As part of the confirmation cirruculum on Wednesday evenings, 7th through 9th grade students participate in large-group singing to learn about the elements of worship via song. Emphasis is on becoming lifelong worship participants and leaders. Confirmation students lead a worship service once every quarter. Instruction in hospitality, communion, and lectoring enables students to become active worship leaders and participants.

Youth Choir (7th - 9th Grade)

Interested junior and senior high vocalists meet every Sunday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. They often lead the 10:45 a.m. worship service. Minimal participation in festival services is requested. Rehearsals are held late Sunday mornings to accommodate busy schedules.
